mmm...hmm..Gardening????It's was a coupled years back, when we moved into this place which is an hour drive from the city,it's area's about 6,000sq.ft.-minus the built up area, the garden is approx.4,000sq.ft.
Well...it's like living in the city and next to 'kampung' environment. With so many sq.ft. spaces out there,I wanted to plant something that we could consumed at the end of the day.
Without further planning, went straight to the nursery nearby and bought the young plants ie: grapes, mango, rambutan, lemon-seedless,coconut.,Next I remembered they were planted to where the spot we wanted, then it's part of daily chore to water the plants, weeding, caring, etc.
Nope...all these did'nt worked ,after a few weeks all these plants died,re planted and died again, and again eventually I realized that the roots could'nt penetrate into the earth because the soil's hard and acidic(according to some experts). To cut the story short, after many trial and errors,I ended planting 'dragon fruits' or in chinese it's called loong guo.
The dragon fruit is cultivated in tropical regions around the world. The plant of the dragon fruit can grow from around a few inches or centimeters to up to twenty feet (around six meters). It flourishes in hot regions with a heavy rainfall. Periods of cold will kill the plant, and it loves the high temperatures found in tropical countries.
The flowers of the dragon fruit plant only bloom at night and usually only live for one night. Pollination happens at this time to allow the fruit to emerge. The flowers of the dragon fruit give out a very beautiful scent, and the smell can fill the night air wherever the plant grows. The dragon fruit is best eaten by cutting the fruit in half and scooping the flesh out. The flavor is very refreshing and sweet. Dragon fruits are delicious chilled and can be served in fruit juices and fruit salads or made into jam. They can also be juiced and added to alcohol to make a very delicious drink.
Btw,I've tried this recipe....brew your own Dragon Fruit Enzymatic Digestive Tonic. The Tonic helps to improve digestion, strenghten the immune funtion, improve cell function, discharge waste from body, improve skin condition and prevent fungal and yeast growth:
